We present the electronic density of states of bent (kinked) multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWNT) investigated using scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) and scanning tunneling spectroscopy (STM). Our results indicate that the local density of states (LDOS) and the differential conductance are distorted and asymmetric with in 1 nm of the kink center. Away from the kink center the perfect tube LDOS and differential conductance are recovered. We estimate the recovery length to be 1.5 nm. We also found that the distribution of the unoccupied states is more affected than the occupied states. Far from the kink ~1.5 nm the LDOS represents that of a perfect tube.
