Raman Intensity of Carbon Nanotubes and Related Materials
R. Saito*, G. Dresselhaus and M.S. DresselhausFinite size effect and magnetic field effect on Raman intensity of carbon nanotubes and related materials are presented. Because of the lower symmetry effect caused by the ends of a nanotube, we found new Raman active modes which give signals in the intermediate frequency region. The density of states of carbon nanotubes can be modified in the presence of the magnetic field perpendicular to nanotube axis which can be detected in the resonant Raman effect. A possible design for the corresponding experiment is discussed in connection with the disorder effect which may appear in large diameter nanotube. Finally we discuss the electronic and vibrational structure of a new nano-structures (corn or horn) made of carbon which is recently observed in the experiment.
