Detection of new carbon structure during transformation of ultra dispersed diamond to carbon onion particle
A.V. Okotrub1, L.G. Bulusheva1, V.L. Kuznezov2, Yu. Butenko2, A.L. Chuvilin2At the thermal treatment of ultra dispersed diamond (UDD) the onion-like particles consisting from graphene shells are formed. The morphology and size of these particles depend on the annealing temperature. Carbon particles formed at the different temperature were investigated by X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy. CKa spectra of initial and final samples are similar to those for diamond and graphite respectively. CKa spectral profile for the intermediate product obtained at 1300 K can be related to new carbon structure, which is differ from known allotropic carbon forms. Interpretation of CKa spectra are performed on the basis of quantum-chemical calculations of set graphite sheets separated by various distances.
