We have unveiled a large area, fully sealed carbon nanotube field emission display (CNT-FED) prototype. This presented demo unit shows the advantage of carbon nanotubes for field emission displays. Field emission displays (FEDs) have much in common with cathode-ray tubes (CRTs). The CNT-FED is as bright as a CRT, and as flat and thin as a LCD. The CNT\226FED operate at 200 \226800 V, as opposed to the 15000V to 30000 V used by CRTs and 300 to 5000 V used by conventional FEDs. Viewers will immediately recognize the excellent brightness at any viewing angle. The scalability of CNT-FEDs also promises the increase in display size. Although device development is at an early stage, the reliable results enable us to produce CNTs-based large area full-color FEDs in the near future. The features of demo unit are as follows.

Features:
Matrix-addressable diode-flat panel display with 4.5-inch fully sealed carbon nanotubes, low turn-on field (less than 1 V/mm ), display brightness of 1800 cd/m2 at 4 V/mm, current flucuation of around 7% over a 4.5-inch cathode area, low cost, large area (scalable).
