First symposium on
Transition metal
chalcogenide nanostructures
(TMCN07)
Rathen, Germany
March 18-21, 2007
Symposium Organizers:
Gotthard Seifert
(Technical University Dresden, Germany)
Reshef Tenne
(Weizmann Institute of Science, Israel)
David Tomanek
(Michigan State University, USA)
Scope:
Nanostructures of transition metal chalcogenides, owing to their
chemical composition and nanometer dimension, exhibit a variety of fascinating
properties and offer a diversity of issues for research of both
fundamental and practical interest. This symposium will bring together
leading scientists to discuss open problems and define future trends in
this exciting field.
Topics receiving special attention include:
- Unexpected properties due to composition and nanoscale
- Synthetic approaches
- Narrow window of stability
- Structural properties of wires and tubes
- Electronic structure
- Magnetism, superconductivity, linear and nonlinear polarizability
- Charge and spin transport
- Applications
Format of the Symposium:
- 2-day workshop
- Informal: short presentations + discussion whole afternoon
