Sakartvelo:
Study Adventure in Tusheti Mountains

Why?

Education is the best investment in the future of our children. It is the best defense of our country. Children of Tusheti deserve to learn about the unique heritage of their region where their heart is: in the mountains of Tusheti. They need to see and to touch buildings their ancestors built. They need to see and touch the unique flowers and trees that can only be found in Tusheti.

Tusheti children also need to learn and know other languages. English may be most useful now.

Tusheti children also need to know the basics of Mathematics and of Science to compete with children in other countries.

Some of this can be taught in just a few days. It should be fun and an adventure for the children. It will not replace school, it will beautifully complement it.

What?

Topics will depend on the availability of teachers. Teachers who care about the young generation.

My name is Dr. David Tománek. I am University Professor in the USA and will be one of the teachers if at least 5 children participate. You can find more information about me on Wikipedia.

I can teach

  • Science
  • Mathematics
  • English
  • Much more
I will do it primarily for children of Tusheti, but everybody can come. I can teach so that children find it fun. I only will do it if I find at least 5 children who are interested.

Where?

The village of Omalo, at 2,000 m above sea level and known from the movie Mimino, is a good place. It has an old history. It is a true Tushetian location. It can be reached from Alvani in a 4x4 drive Mitsubishi Delica automobile in 4 hours. Maybe, someone will drive children for free. Maybe your father or his brother.

When?

The week of September 11-15, 2023, will be best. Regular school starts later – September 18, 2023, in Alvani.

There will be lessons in the morning and play time in the afternoon. We will discuss in the evening, then go to bed.

Who?

My name is Dr. David Tománek. I am University Professor in the USA. I teach Physics and speak 7 languages. You can find more information on me on Wikipedia. I hope that more colleagues will join me in teaching. The course will take place if at least 5 children attend.

I will be very happy if some parents or grand-parents of the children can come and be with the children all the time (100% of the time). They will take care that nothing bad happens to the children.

Again, I hope more Georgians will come and help me to teach!

For Children

Every child living in Tusheti and attending school is welcome to attend.

Please bring along a pencil, few sheets of paper or a small notebook, to take notes.

Please bring your textbooks with you. Then I will be able to judge, what you already know. What you do not understand (in Mathematics), I can explain.

For Parents

One or more parents or grand-parents of the children should stay with the children all the time (100% of the time). All are welcome to class.

Cost

Because education is valuable, the government covers much of its cost from taxes. Without subsidy, tuition for this course is GEL 500. I know that this is a lot of money for people in Tusheti. And there are huge discounts for deserving children.

I offer children interested in the discount one possibility to demonstrate their interest first. To be eligible for a discount, children have to write a one-page document, in English or in Kartuli, why they are interested in this one-week adventure, what questions they have, and what they expect from the course. This document has to be sent by August 1, 2023, by email to sakartvelo@nanoten.com I will grade these documents.

I will offer a 100% discount (free course) for the best 5 documents. I will offer a 90% discount for the second best 5 documents. As for me, I will earn GEL 0.

Independent of tuition, the organizers request a GEL 100 deposit for every child attending the entire course. I do not want to come to Tusheti, pay a lot of money for the flight, spend a lot of time on the preparation, and then no children come. When more than GEL 500 have been deposited, I will come. This deposit will be returned back to everybody, who participates in the entire course.

For me it is an honor to educate the young generation in Tusheti, Sakartvelo. I do not teach for money, I teach to prepare the young generation for the future. If the children enjoy, they and their parents will become my friends. This is my motivation.

Need More Teachers!!

We need more teachers. You should be able to talk to the children in their native language. If you are a teacher in Alvani or elsewhere, please volunteer. If you are University student, please volunteer. We need inspiring people to tell the children about

  • Local plants and animals (Biology teachers)
  • Local architecture and history (History teachers)
  • Anything else the children will enjoy.
Children will learn more when they touch a tree or touch a Tusheti tower and come inside.
