The workshop will take place at the East Lansing Marriott at University Place, a hotel with conference facilities.
We prefer that most participants find accommodation at the East Lansing Marriott at University Place, where the workshop will take place. This hotel is in the "heart" of the college town of East Lansing. Only one block North from the (beautiful) MSU campus, it is also close to a variety of student stores and inexpensive ethnic food places. Our preferred espresso cafe (Caffe Venezia) next door to the hotelapparently went bankrupt the week of the conference; we will look for an alternate informal meeting place and supply of quality caffeine.
At present, the conference hotel is fully booked. You may still get a room in case of cancellations; the most convenient way to make or change a reservation is by faxing the filled registration form directly to the East Lansing Marriott. The Marriott registration form is available in pdf format, in PostScript format, and as regular ascii text file.
To save you money, we can also try to match you up with a room-mate upon request.
One of the less expensive hotels, still within reasonable distance (about 3-4 km) from the Marriott, is the Ramada Inn, 1100 Trowbridge Rd, East Lansing, MI 48823-5222, USA. The easiest way to secure your room is to make an online reservation through Ramada's web site. The Ramada registration form is also available as a regular ascii text file suitable for faxing. The phone number of Ramada Inn is +1-517-351-5500, the fax number is +1-517-351-5509. Please mention the code NWN9 and the convention name NANOTUBE-99 when making your on-line or phone/fax reservation to obtain the reduced rate of $53 (+tax) per single- or double-bed room. Also Ramada has limited capacity, so please hurry with your reservation.
Ramada Inn will provide free transportation from and to Lansing Capitol City Airport. To arrange for a pick-up upon arrival, please contact their registration desk from the Ramada courtesy phone in the luggage claim area, or call 351-5500.
Should both hotels be full, you may want to try the Holiday Inn on 6820 South Cedar Street in Lansing, MI 48911. Holiday Inn South can be reached by phone at (517) 694-8123 or by fax at (517) 699-3753.
Ramada Inn and Marriott may provide transportation for a limited number of participants staying at Ramada Inn in the morning and the evening if their airport van is available.
You may share a taxi with other participants. The phone numbers of Spartan/Yellow Cab are 485-4400 and 482-1444. The cost is approximately $6 from Ramada Inn and $15 from Holiday Inn on South Cedar Avenue. The taxi company also operates 8- and 12-passenger vans. Please book your taxi ride early.
For only $1.00, try your luck reaching the Marriott from the Ramada Inn using CATA (Capital Area Transportation Authority) bus number 20. The bus stop closest to Ramada is located on Harrison road, next to the Spartan Shopping Center. The bus stop closest to Marriott is at the MSU Union on Grand River Avenue (see also the map). Information about the schedule of bus number 20 can be found at the Spartan Shopping Center bus stop or inside the MSU Union building.
