Latest News

> What is new — now.

1 July 2020: After a long close-down due to the COVID19 pandemic, one of Europe’s largest conference venue operators, Viparis, plans to open up Paris for conferences in September 2020. Other conference venues follow suit.

3 July 2020: The GTUnano20 conference, to take place in Tbilisi from October 5-8, 2020, has been cancelled by the organizers.

4 July 2020: Several scientists invited to present at GTUnano20 expressed interest in an alternative high-level scientific meeting in Tbilisi (no virtual meeting). I consider conference organization a service to the scientific community and offer to organize the International Workshop on Nanotechnology (Tnano20) in Tbilisi, Republic of Georgia, IF
  • there is sufficient interest and
  • the health threat due to COVID19 becomes negligible

5 July 2020: There appears increasing interest in Tnano20. The international workshop will benefit from
  • low airfares
  • low hotel cost
that the tourist industry will surely offer as incentives to travel.

8 July 2020: Interest in Tnano20 seems to be growing, but so do concerns about health risks. I see three possibilities for the format of Tnano20:
  1. regular workshop with personal presentations
    (IF completely safe)
    , or
  2. virtual Zoom workshop (if NOT safe), or
  3. split into a regular workshop in Tbilisi
preceded by a Zoom online workshop
with speakers unable to attend in person.
I appreciate your feedback about these options (HERE).

11 July 2020: This is the current situation.
  • From the feedback I have received, many are committed to present, as listed in the program page of Tnano20.
  • At least some are very interested in attending in person. This will be option #3 above.
  • I plan to schedule Zoom meetings with those committed to travel to Tbilisi starting September. We will discuss health safety and related issues on Zoom (I will send out invitations). Make sure you are registered to participate.
  • Should the overall situation in the Republic of Georgia turn bad by October, we go to alternative #2, on-line only, via Zoom.
16 July 2020: Official information about the spread of the COVID-19 virus in the Republic of Georgia is posted at https://stopcov.ge/en. So far, Georgia has confirmed 15 coronavirus-related fatalities.
17 July 2020: Please note the challenge of scheduling a virtual conference with contributors from around the World, shown in this map.
27 July 2020: The number of applications and abstracts for Tnano20 has increased beyond the maximum number manageable by a single person (me). The abstract submission deadline has been moved back by one month.
4 August 2020: Speaker assignment to time slots in the program has been completed. All speakers are reminded to submit an abstract before the deadline.
4 September 2020: The book of abstracts has been posted at
https://nanoten.com/conf-org/Tnano20/Tnano20-abstract-book.pdf
The session chairs have been selected and are listed in the updated program.
A detailed list of session chairs is posted at
https://nanoten.com/conf-org/Tnano20/session-chairs.html
20 September 2020: The Tnano20 program has been updated. An updated book of abstracts has been posted at
https://nanoten.com/conf-org/Tnano20/Tnano20-abstract-book.pdf
All presenters will be contacted by email to run a 2-minute test of starting a presentation on Zoom. Prerequisites for the Zoom presentation are posted HERE.
26 September 2020: The Tnano20 program underwent further update. With three exceptions, all presenters have passed the Zoom presentation test.
A new Physical Review session has been introduced. It will start with a brief presentation by a Physical Review editor that will highlight the commitment of this established Physics journal to nanometer-scale science or nanotechnology.
In the program of the second day, a two-hour period called MEET THE EDITORS will allow participants to discuss with editors of Physical Review Letters, Physical Review B, Physical Review Applied, Physical Review Materials, and Physical Review X. (Not all editors will be available all the time during this two-hour period).
30 September 2020: The final version of the Tnano20 Book of Abstracts has been uploaded. You will find it useful to print out at least pages iii - xii at the beginning.
The program of Tnano20 is split into 20 Zoom sessions. Every registered participant will receive a separate email invitation to each passcode-protected session. Important: follow the instructions BEFORE a session starts.
3 October 2020: The technical program of Tnano20 will start coming Monday, October 5, 2020.
The social program of Tnano20 starts tomorrow Sunday, October 4, 2020, with a Virtual Cheers session lasting from 08:00 - 20:00 EDT. Come, say Hi to me and other conferees. Glass filled with whichever beverage is optional.
9 November 2020: I thank all Tnano20 participants for providing meaningful feedback in the Workshop Survey. I feel very grateful. The file will be updated as more survey results come in.
10 November 2020: I take all information in the survey to heart.
In particular: reduce the amount of email!
If you are interested in the future of this or similar workshops, please check for news at this site. Please feel welcome to email me.
16 November 2020: Information about the 19 Zoom sessions, which have been recorded, has now been added to the zoom web page of Tnano20. If you have participated in Tnano20, you may request access to the recordings HERE.

22 November 2020: Most Tnano20 presenters have granted access to their recorded presentations, as seen by the green square next to the Zoom presentation listing. Tnano20 participants only may request access to the recordings HERE. If a particular presentation/session is denoted by a red square, you may contact the presenter at his/her email address and ask for specific approval to see the presentation.
